The University of Tennessee at Martin’s Somerville Center has exciting events in store for the community’s students this summer! The Kid College will take place June 27-30 and the Fayette County's Freshman Flight of Passage will be August 1st and 2nd. Read below for more information including times, classes, and registration fees.
Kid College
UT Martin’s Kid College is open to students from kindergarten through 5th grade. Students will have 4 fantastic fun-filled days where they are able to explore a variety of subjects. They will be rotating through a series of different classes each day, much like they will be doing in secondary school and college. They will be able to explore creative and educational avenues that will stimulate their minds. You never know – you just might have the next Taylor Swift or David Attenborough in your family!
Instructed by Kelly Herman, students will be given an introduction into musical instruments and composition. Their goal is to create an original piece and students will be able to take the stage and perform in front of the class on the very last day.
Students will put on their exploration hats as they read “Mummies in the Morning,” an exciting tale from the popular Magic Tree House book series. Instructors SaraBeth Pulliam and Stephanie Hoskins will take the children back in time for an ancient Egyptian adventure every day with fun activities to go along with the portion of the book read that day.
Lastly, students will get the chance to take a deep dive into native biology here in Fayette County! Professor Richard Rucker will demonstrate how our local fauna and flora adapt to survive our ecosystem. Students will also study local wildlife and examine animal skulls so they can investigate the creature’s diet and habitat.
WHEN: June 27-30 @ 8:30-11:30AM WHERE: UT Martin Somerville Center 214 Lakeview Rd, Somerville, TN 38068 COST: $95 registration fee per child. Includes exclusive t-shirt for attendees
